EJOT SHEETtracs® Self-Tapping Sheet Metal Screws

The thinner a metal sheet with pre-punched pilot holes, the harder it is to create a thread in it. SHEETtracs® screws provide an optimal solution for this application, as they are specifically engineered for sheet metal thicknesses below 1.5 mm.

EJOT SHEETtracs®: The Thin-Sheet Fastener

The SHEETtracs® is a thread-forming screw designed for secure thin-sheet metal joints with a pilot hole. Conventional thin-sheet metal screws feature a metric 60° thread. The advantage of the metric thread is its smaller thread pitch compared to self-tapping screws, which allows for more of the load-bearing part of the thread being made use of in the thin sheet.

However, since the formed mating thread is usually the weak point of the joint, EJOT® developed a special thin-sheet screw for reliable assembly in pre-drilled thin sheet metal. This special screw creates a more stable mating thread in the sheet metal.

Thanks to this reliable solution, sheet metal can be made thinner and lighter, which helps to save total cost, e.g. in the production of white goods.

Special Thread Geometry

It is the special thread geometry that makes the SHEETtracs® screw unique. The asymmetric 45º flank angle (30º/15º) reduces material displacement and creates a more powerful female thread in thin sheet metal. This results in a high stripping torque and a more secure assembly.

The circular cross-section in the load-bearing thread allows increased overlapping of the thread flanks compared with non-circular thread geometries. The metric pitch ensures that the screw can be replaced – e.g. in the event of a repair – with conventional metric screws.

Reversed Flank Angle

The reversed flank angle is created in the form area and ends before the full outer diameter in the load-bearing thread is reached. This means that the resulting rim hole is largely formed in the tightening direction.

Non-Circular Thread-Forming Zone

The non-circular thread-forming zone allows for easy, centred placement of the screw and smooth screw-in. The raised thread sections ensure secure penetration into the sheet metal.
