Rometron: More Consistency in Assembly Through Reliable Anti-Loosening Fastening

From inconsistent fastening to reliable assembly: discover how Rometron implemented smart fastening for precision weed detection.

Rometron, a manufacturer of precision weed detection systems was working with a variety of fastening solutions. This resulted in anti-loosening issues, variation in drive types and unnecessary complexity during assembly. The company was looking for a partner that could actively think along and provide in-depth technical expertise to increase the reliability of its systems.

The Challenges

In particular, Rometron struggled with:

  • The need for reliable anti-loosening fastening techniques for systems operating under vibration and outdoor conditions
  • No technical support from the existing supplier; emails containing technical questions remained unanswered
  • A mix of drive types (Phillips and Torx) led to inconsistent and error-prone assembly
  • The need for high-quality components such as stainless steel A2/A4 fasteners, spacers, SEMS screws and Torx fasteners with anti-loosening features
  • Documentation requirements including REACH, RoHS, a 2.1 certificate and a Certificate of Conformity

The Solution

  • Technical advice and proactive support in selecting the right anti-loosening methods for this application
  • Samples supplied to assess assembly quality and anti-loosening performance
  • A complete transition to a single drive type: Torx, enabling more reliable assembly and reduced variation
  • Introduction of thread-locking instead of washer-based locking, resulting in more stable performance under load
  • Support during part integration: the new design is fully provided with Bossard article numbers for improved traceability.
  • Supply of high-quality stainless steel A2/A4 components, SEMS screws, spacers and Tuflok® anti-loosening solutions
  • Quality assurance and supply reliability through call-off agreements

The Results

After implementing the solutions suggested by Bossard, Rometron benefited from:

  • Improved anti-loosening performance and reliability through the switch to thread locking and Torx drive
  • Consistent assembly thanks to uniform fastening solutions
  • Higher customer satisfaction: the customer indicated that they had never experienced a supplier investing so much time and attention in thinking along and solving their technical challenge.
  • Price and quality assurance through validated samples and fixed agreements
